Please join us for Seasonal Acupuncture + Yoga!
Led by Acupuncturist Dr. Mary Froeba DAcOM and Yoga Instructor Aemi Kato-Cuarezma, this Seasonal Yoga + Acupuncture Special Event is on Sunday June 11th, 9:15-10:45 am at Healium Hot Yoga’s Cozy Studio (first floor) and involves equal parts yoga and acupuncture!
***This class will not be heated***
Tailored to fit the season, each event begins with an approachable yoga session for all levels and experience. After warming the body and coming into stillness lying down in Savasana, participants enjoy a thematic acupuncture session.
The first half will be a gentle vinyasa style flow focused on opening up the chest and side body to create space for the heart and lungs. We’ll practice simple breathwork exercises to focus the mind and warm the body along with twists to activate and massage the digestive system. Participants are welcome at any time to skip any postures and choose a comfortable seated position or child's pose as needed.
The second half of will be a thematic acupuncture session that may include hair-fine needles at the hands, feet, head, and/or ears. Needle selection will focus on aiding physical and mental adjustment to the new season. Traditional Chinese Medicine associates the liver and gallbladder organs and channel systems with the spring season and so our acupuncture session will follow suit. With the Solstice just around the corner, we will also tap into summer system: the season of Heart and Fire!
Before the event begins, exact acupuncture point locations will be shared with the group. Every participant will fill a form with an informed consent waiver, a simple health intake relevant to the event, and the chance to formally accept or decline acupuncture either partially or all together. Those who are needle adverse and do not have a sensitivity to adhesives may have acupressure seeds placed instead. Participants under 18 must have a waiver signed by parent/guardian in person.
