Demystifying Ashtanga Yoga for the Ashtanga-curious with Michael Seidel, Sunday April 28th from 10:00-11:30 am at Healium Restore.
This workshop is a primer on Ashtanga yoga, appropriate for the absolute beginner. It stems from the premise that Ashtanga is, well, kind of confusing and intimidating to someone just getting into the practice.
In our time together, we’ll start at square one.
We’ll explore:
What defines this style of yoga
How it is similar to and different from other styles
Ashtanga’s maze-like terminology (Mysore, Led, Primary, Tristana, etc.)
From there, we’ll do a modified short form version of the practice, with ample time baked in to experiment with technique and ask questions.
Here’s how our time together will look:
45 minutes discussion about the practice
45 minutes of on-mat practice
The goal is to make Ashtanga accessible, understandable, adaptable, non-dogmatic, and, most importantly, FUN.
About Michael:
Michael came to Ashtanga yoga in his early 40s. He’d dabbled in other styles of yoga over the years, but it never clicked. Ashtanga drew him in with its meditative aspects, as well as the physical metamorphosis that a dedicated practice reveals over time. He recently completed a year-long mentorship with his primary Ashtanga teacher, Taylor Hunt. When he’s not studying or doing Ashtanga, Michael will most likely be found at a climbing gym somewhere in America with his family.
All levels are welcome.
