The word “somatic" is derived from the beautiful Greek word Somatikos meaning “of the body.” Somatic movement is the practice of mindfully engaging with the intelligence of our own bodies.

Somatic movement, developed by Thomas Hanna, was strongly influenced by the methods of Feldenkrais, which is used to improve human functioning by increasing self-awareness through movement. These slow, mindful movements help to amplify our bodily awareness so it can self-heal, self-correct and release persistent stress-based patterns.

Our bodies (and brains) often get locked into patterns and our muscles forget how to relax and how to engage to support us properly. Often this is due to high stress, busy lifestyle, illness, trauma, habits, aging, etc. Somatic movement helps to retrain the brain to let go of these patterns through small and gentle movements which benefits the nervous system profoundly.

The nervous system craves deeply calming movements and to become more effortless in these movements and within the breathing. By unlocking and dissolving these patterns of tension in the body, we can retrain the nervous system to unwind and enable its many pathways of release.

During this workshop we will be exploring various somatic movements that will allow us to relate to our bodies and brains as self-sensing, self-organizing, and self-renewing. Honoring the vast intelligence and wisdom of our bodies and the felt sense we have access to, using that as our guide. This guide enables us to have subtle conversations with ourselves to support deeper healing. Movement is a foundation for increasing our awareness and preventing stagnation, how we move is imperative to how we function. These slow movement sequences will allow us to find more ease and authenticity.

*The benefits of somatic movement/yoga are countless and this practice is suitable and safe for all.
*Wearing socks for practice may be a good idea as well.

*Please Note : If less than 3 persons are signed up, class will be canceled & refunded.
